NEWS All Canadian provinces and territories are adopting the new National Safety Code standard for Daily vehicle Inspections. These requirements are significantly different that what has been in place. Drivers need to know what to inspect, the difference between defects and major defects and how to avoid being charged with an offence. The new requirements consist of 23 vehicle items or systems that must be inspected by drivers, and each item or system has a list of specific defective conditions. These defects are divided into those that are minor and those that are major. Operating with minor defects is not an imminent safety hazard so the vehicle can continue to operate for a period of time. Vehicles with major defects must be repaired before they are operated. Drivers must complete and carry new vehicle inspection reports and must also carry a copy of the correct inspection schedule at all times. Techni-Com has developed a driver handbook that details all of the information drivers need. This handbook is supported by a complete driver training program. Techni-Com also develops vehicle inspection reports forms for many different types of operations in conjunction with the Ontario Trucking Association. |
